Rick Ross Calls Time With Dr. Dre ‘Inspirational’

‘The advice he gave me, it’s already affected the way I’ve been in the studio,’ the Bawse tells MTV News.

There is no rap producer more revered than Dr. Dre.

From N.W.A and Snoop Dogg to Eminem and 50 Cent, the legendary hip-hop producer has jump-started the careers of some of the game’s greatest artists. In addition to cultivating new talent in the studio, he has also crafted hits with heavyweights like Jay-Z, Nas and Tupac. And next up is the Bawse.

On January 25, Rick Ross tweeted a picture of himself in the studio with DJ Khaled and Dre; while Rozay wouldn’t say exactly what the trio was working on, it’s clear that Dre had a profound impact.

“It was amazing, my brother,” Ross told MTV News’ Sway in Miami over the weekend. “We had the opportunity to just first and foremost touch base like bosses. We went out, we had dinner, we just discussed ideas and that led to the studio.”

The ever-calculating Ross didn’t want to let the cat out of the bag just yet, but working with Dre has already changed his work habits, he said. “The advice he gave me, it’s already affected the way I’ve been in the studio for the last week,” Rozay said. “So let’s just say he’s full of knowledge and he’s a solid guy. Most definitely that’s maybe my biggest hip-hop influence in the game.”

Before Ross became a marquee rap name, he was a fan. He often cites Slick Rick and the Beastie Boys as early influences, and of course Dre is part of that set. “A lot of times when you sit back and you watchin’ greatness in motion, when I think back to [N.W.A's] Straight Outta Compton or [Snoop Dogg's] Doggystyle and I think about the smallest things from the skits to the way the records ended to having the opportunity to ask him about certain things about those classic albums,” Ross said of his interaction with the Chronic mastermind, “to just hear the time that was put into it, and the format, it was really priceless knowledge. For him to acknowledge Maybach Music and what I’m doin’ as an artist and a CEO, that was just real inspirational.”

Madonna Explains Cutting Lourdes’ ‘W.E.’ Cameo

‘I just kind of dragged her in at the last minute,’ Madge explains to MTV News of her daughter’s short-lived role.

Madonna worked with a number of skilled thespians on “W.E.,” but when it came to one smaller role in the film, which opens Friday, the pop star/director knew of one up-and-comer she felt would be perfect for the role: her daughter, Lourdes.

“There was a scene where she played Wally as a young girl,” she told MTV News about her daughter’s role as the teen version of Abbie Cornish’s character, a modern-day American obsessed with the romance between American divorcée Wallis Simpson and King Edward VIII. “And I just kind of dragged her in at the last minute. It was quite unfair of me what I did and what I asked her to do.”

Cornish teased Lourdes’ appearance to us back in March 2011, but, as it sometimes happens in Hollywood, Lourdes’ bit part will remain unseen. “But she was really great and then I ended up cutting her out of the film. Ruthless, I know,” Madge teased. “I said, ‘Sorry babe, you’re on the cutting room floor.’ She took it like a champ.”

Making the choice to not include Lourdes was one of the many decisions the Queen of Pop had to make while shooting the film. But, hard decisions come easy to Madonna and the experience of shooting this film has only heightened her desire to direct more in the future.

“Yes, watch out Visconti!” she laughed. “No, I’m not a blockbuster kind of a girl, I don’t think. But I do love the idea of making a sweeping epic romance. And now that I know how to make a film in three different countries, with several different time periods and lots of different accents; I think I’m qualified.”

Exclusive: Foo Fighters Go For Gold In Grammy Promo

MTV News brings you a first look at 30-second spot, debuting Tuesday.
By Kara Warner

Photo: NARAS

The countdown to the 2012 Grammys is on.

Last week, we got a sneak peek at a few promo photos of host LL Cool J and nominees Nicki Minaj and Taylor Swift. This week, MTV News has landed an exclusive first look at the television ad campaign featuring the 25-time-nominated Foo Fighters, who are up for six Grammys this year, including Album of the Year and Best Rock Album for Wasting Light.

Check out the complete list of 2012 Grammy nominees.

The 30-second teaser, which debuts Tuesday night on CBS, opens with an aerial shot overlooking a bejeweled city, reminiscent of the Emerald City from “Wizard of Oz” but all in gold, not green. Over the opening notes of the Foo track “Bridge Burning,” the camera starts to zoom in toward the center of the city, with the gem-like walls exploding into pieces around the shot. From the golden and dusty debris, the Foos emerge individually rocking out to the song. First Taylor Hawkins, then Dave Grohl, followed by Chris Shiflett, Nate Mendel and Pat Smear.

The promo ends with the Grammy slogan — “We Are Music” — etched into the rock formations.

According to a statement from the Recording Academy, the focus of this year’s ad campaign is on the “raw emotion in music that connects fans and artists and transcends the Grammy stage. It’s that moment where the artist is ready to push the music out and the fan is ready to receive — that’s the true power of music.”

The stylized visuals in the video spots are aimed at exposing and enhancing the emotions of this year’s nominees and their songs.

In addition to the promo featuring the Foo Fighters, look out for additional spots from TBWA\Chiat\Day Los Angeles with Adele, Bon Iver and Skrillex, as well as the print campaign, which features Grammy winners and current nominees Bruno Mars and Paul McCartney.

The 54th annual Grammy Awards air live Sunday, February 12, at 8 p.m. ET on CBS.

What do you think of the Foo Fighters promo? Let us know in the comments!

George Clooney on Release of Demi Moore 911 Call: Stupid!

January 31st, 2012 by factor
Respond

The whole online world now knows that Demi Moore was “smoking something” last week, and the act resulted in a “semi-conscious” state that left at least one friend in a panic.

That’s because the 911 call placed on behalf of the actress was released to the public, something that’s permitted in our justice something and something which befalls most celebrities who end up in the hospital.

But George Clooney doesn’t believe this should be the case.

“I think it’s a stupid thing,” the actor told The Insider. “I think it’s stupid for anyone, whether they’re celebrated or not, I don’t believe their 911 call should be broadcast around the world, but that’s my opinion. What’s happening and what people have to remember is that people are getting famous from Facebook and Twitter, so it’s not just about people here, it’s about everybody. There won’t be any version of privacy. So it’s going to be a tricky thing.”

It’s a tricky subject indeed. Where do you stand on it? Should 911 calls be made public?

SAG Awards Red Carpet Ruled By Pastels, Sexy Details

Emma Stone, Lea Michele and Angelina Jolie flaunt what they’ve got in couture on Sunday night.
By Jocelyn Vena

The SAG Awards may honor actors and their hard work, but on the red carpet on Sunday (January 29), it was all about recognizing all of the hard work they put into their looks. At the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, the overarching trend seemed to be flaunting what you’ve got.

For photos of the stars on the SAG Awards red carpet, click here.

Zoe Saldana went light in a sequined white dress with a drop waist and floral detailing. Kristin Wiig’s look, though, had a bit of a split personality: Her pale-hued Balenciaga gown was decidedly glam thanks to tailoring that showed off her long, lean body, but her black metal choker was a bit too heavy and goth for the overall look.

Two of the biggest divas on Fox’s “Glee,” Lea Michele and Naya Rivera, made pale colors look red-hot. Michele’s lavender Versace had a body-hugging bodice and thigh-high slit, while Rivera’s ice-blue dress was made even sexier thanks to a plunging neckline.

Red also ruled the carpet. “My Week With Marilyn” star Michelle Williams was chic in a bright-red Valentino dress, which was cut right above the ankle. Her ladylike look was capped off with lace detailing along her sleeves and neckline. “Dexter” star Jennifer Carpenter also opted for a red-and-lace red-carpet look.

Using a similar color palette, Sofia Vergara’s hot pink, strapless Marchesa gown was super hot. Her “Modern Family” co-star Julie Bowen went Grecian in a purple gown.

Emma Stone, Angelina Jolie, Tina Fey and Ashlee Simpson decided that a little black dress wasn’t too simple for Sunday’s show. Jolie played up her inner vixen in a Jenny Packham halter gown with a draped neckline. Meanwhile, Stone went quirky in a three-quarter-length strapless black dress with lace details. “The Help” star played up the fun aspect of the Alexander McQueen design with platform shoes.

Simpson, meanwhile, looked like a character right out of boyfriend Vincent Piazza’s show “Boardwalk Empire” in a ’20s-style Jenny Packham gown with sequins and see-through fabric along the neckline. Fey brought the “va va voom” in her black strapless column dress: It was all party on top — with grey and black shades — and business at the bottom in a plain black fabric.

The guys didn’t disappoint, either. Fellas like Brad Pitt, George Clooney and Jonah Hill kept it classic and simple in tuxedos, choosing ties over bowties. One guy, however, had a little fun with it, and that honor went to “Modern Family” star Jesse Tyler Ferguson, who wore a blue pinstripe suit with a matching blue-velvet bowtie.

Dwight Schrute Spin-Off From ‘The Office’ In Works

January 30th, 2012 by factor

NBC considers launching spin-off focused on Rainn Wilson’s character.
By Gil Kaufman

Up until now, we’ve gotten just an occasional glimpse at the bizarre happenings at the Schrute family beet farm. But if NBC has its way, we may be seeing a lot more of agritourism hotel owner and Assistant to the Regional Manager at Dunder Mifflin, Dwight Schrute.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, an unnamed source at NBC confirmed that the network is thinking about a spin-off centered on Rainn Wilson’s paintball-loving character and his family’s farm. The show would delve deeper into life at Schrute Farms and include a number of other Schrutes.

With “The Office” not yet picked up for a ninth season, the plan is to start testing the concept in an episode later this season. So far, it’s believed that Wilson, as well as actor/showrunner Paul Lieberstein and executive producer Ben Silverman are involved.

“Paul and Rainn have been joking for years about Dwight’s life on the farm, his family and how ill-suited he is to run a B&B,” a source told Deadline Hollywood. “A while ago, it started to feel like a show to them. NBC agreed, it’s been further developed to include multiple generations, many cousins and neighbors. At its base it will be about a family farm struggling to survive and a family trying to stay together.”

As the Reporter noted, while Wilson’s quirky character has a devoted cult following — as evidenced by such comprehensive fan sites as Schrute Space — the spin-off concept is not necessarily a slam-dunk. Just as the short-lived, unfunny “Friends” spin-off “Joey” crashed and burned, it’s possible that the shrinking “Office” fanbase might not follow Dwight off into the beet fields.

“The Office” got a major overhaul at the end of last season, when star Steve Carell left and actor James Spader was brought in as new boss Robert California. So far, the strong ensemble cast has struggled to find its legs without Carell’s outrageously clueless Michael Scott to ground them and average ratings have slipped down by more than a million viewers since last season. Given the show’s legacy and appeal to young male viewers, though, the trade magazine said it was likely “The Office” would be picked up for another season.

Rooney Mara Premieres “Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” in Tokyo

Taking her talents to Tokyo, “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” star Rooney Mara debuted the Oscar-nominated project in Japan on Monday (January 30).

Brightening things up a bit, the 26-year-old actress dressed in a flowing white knee-length dress as she linked up with director Davd Fincher, as well as model Nanao and the master of Sumie Tohun Kobayashi, at the Tokyo International Forum held screening.

And while the film has received major praise among the world of cinema so far, the crime/thriller has hit a sizable ban in one area of the globe after India’s Central Board of Film Certification deemed sex scenes too much for their audience.

A statement on the issue was released, reading, “Sony Pictures will not be releasing The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo in India. The censor board has judged the film unsuitable for public viewing in its unaltered form and, while we are committed to maintaining and protecting the vision of the director, we will, as always, respect the guidelines set by the board.”

Sundance 2012: The Five Most Buzzed-About Movies

From teen comedy ‘The First Time’ to horror flick ‘V/H/S,’ MTV News wraps up the most talked-about premieres.
By Kevin P. Sullivan

For those of us not lucky enough to be in Park City, Utah, right now, the biggest stories coming out of the Sundance Film Festival detail the standing ovations and the distribution deals that filmmakers sign for millions of dollars.

With so many films making their premieres at Sundance, it can be difficult to keep track of which ones you need to be paying attention to and looking out for later this year. To help you out, we’ve rounded up the five films that are coming out of Park City with the biggest buzz.

Here is our list of the five most talked-about Sundance films.

“The Surrogate”
With Oscar nominations being announced Tuesday, looking forward to the 2013 Oscar nominees may seem a little premature. That hasn’t stopped festival attendees from heralding the performances from John Hawkes, Helen Hunt and William H. Macy and predicting Academy Award nominations come next January. In the film, Hawkes plays Mark, a man in an iron lung. Mark decides that he must finally lose his virginity and contacts a sex surrogate played by Hunt. “The Surrogate” earned standing ovations and some of the earliest Oscars talk we’ve ever heard.

“Beasts of the Southern Wild”
One of the outright surprises of the festival came in the form of 6-year old Quvenzhané Wallis and her breakout role in Benh Zeitlin’s “Beasts of the Southern Wild.” The film virtually came out of nowhere and won over audiences handedly. Set in some alternate but fairly relatable reality, Wallis plays Hushpuppy, who has to navigate a brave new world after her father becomes ill. Arguably the festival’s most coveted distributor, Fox Searchlight, snapped up the distribution rights for “Beasts” after paying $6 million for “The Surrogate.”

“V/H/S”
What better praise can a horror film get than an audience member fainting during a screening? The horror anthology “V/H/S” supposedly had that exact effect on one unlucky audience member. Six of horror’s hottest up-and-coming directors contributed segments to this found-footage film, which follows a group of burglars breaking into a mysterious house to search for a specific VHS tape. The movie scared audiences throughout the festival and is considered a must-see for horror fans.

“The First Time”
Once you find out that a movie called “The First Time” follows a blossoming romance between two teenagers, you’d probably assume you know what’s going on. Most of the reviews for the film acknowledge their expectations going into the teen comedy from writer-director Jon Kasdan, but many of those reviews then describe how “The First Time” surprised them with its infectious charm. Set over the course of one weekend, “The First Time” stars Britt Robertson of “The Secret Circle” and Dylan O’Brien of MTV’s “Teen Wolf” as high school kids who meet but are tied up in other relationships.

“Celeste and Jesse Forever”
Rashida Jones has charmed audiences in movies and television for years but always remained just outside the realm of leading lady. Perhaps deciding to make the change herself, Jones co-wrote and starred in “Celeste and Jesse Forever,” an indie romance with Andy Samberg. The two play a recently divorced couple attempting to remain friends after the breakup. Critics applauded the film’s script, which strikes a balance between comedy and poignant romantic drama.

Which of these five films are you most excited for? Let us know in the comments!

‘Man On A Ledge’: A Man, A Ledge And ‘So Much More’

Stars of the film talk to MTV News about the thriller surrounding ‘a desperate man in a desperate situation.’
By Kara Warner

While some filmmakers go the mysterious or fanciful route with their titles, there are just as many who tell their prospective audiences exactly what they’re going to see. “Man on a Ledge,” which opened Friday (January 27), is about as literal a film title as you can get.

When MTV News caught up with the cast recently, we asked them to explain the inherent intrigue in the title, as well as why the film has so much more going for it than just a man and a ledge.

“[The film is about] a desperate man in a desperate situation,” star Sam Worthington said of his character and the man on a ledge himself, Nick Cassidy. “As the movie goes on, we get to see why he’s there and how’s he’s going to get out of it.”

Worthington went on to say that “Man on a Ledge” takes a few cues from action films like “The Negotiator” and “Phone Booth.”

“I like those movies. I’ve always said I like doing movies that I would go and see and this is in the same vein as those movies,” Worthington said. “It’s exciting, thrilling and interesting for the audience because they’ve got a lead character who they’re wondering, ‘What’s going to happen next?’ ”

“The basic premise of the movie is that there is a man on a ledge, and the great thing is that there is so much more behind that basic premise,” added co-star Elizabeth Banks, who plays determined hostage negotiator Lydia Mercer. “Why is he there? What is he there for? What’s really happening? Those are all the questions that my character has and I get to sort of be the surrogate for the audience.

“The whole time we’re watching the movie we’re learning more about what’s going on. I’m the truth-seeker of the movie, I’m really interested in understanding why he’s there in the first place,” she explained. “Sam’s character says to me at one point, ‘You need to listen, I’m prepared to die’ and what he’s really saying is ‘Even if I die, I need you to carry on and tell everyone what happened,’ and that’s the great mystery of the movie. The action that drives the movie is, ‘What the heck is going on here?’ ”

Jamie Bell, who plays the man on the ledge’s younger brother, conceded that the title basically sells the film. “It’s quite literal,” he said.

“I think that’s what throws people off,” offered Genesis Rodriguez, who plays the girlfriend of Bell’s character. “They’re like, ‘Oh, it’s a movie about a man on a ledge.’ It really isn’t. There’s more to it.’ You should check it out because you don’t know it all.”

‘Man On A Ledge’: The Reviews Are In!

January 29th, 2012 by factor
Respond

Effects work ‘frighteningly well’ but ‘premise is so devoutly ridiculous,’ critics say.
By Kara Warner

Sam Worthington in “Man on a Ledge”
Photo: Summit

If your impressions about the new action thriller “Man on a Ledge” are based on the film’s very-literal title, you’re very likely correct in assuming to know a decent amount about the film before entering the theater. “Ledge” is the story of ex-cop and fugitive Nick Cassidy (Sam Worthington), whose seemingly obvious suicidal plan to jump off a building is slowly revealed to be something much more.

Thus far, the critical reception for the film is very different from initial audience reactions. The Rotten Tomatoes Tomatometer has “Ledge” at a 22 percent fresh rating from critics, versus a 65 percent fresh audience rating.

Read on to see what has the two viewing bodies so divided as we sift through the “Man on a Ledge” reviews:

The Premise
“It’s an arresting image, Sam Worthington out on that 40th-story ledge. He’s a fairly tough-looking guy, after all, and we know him best as the tooth-gritting blockbuster hero of ‘Avatar’ and ‘Clash of the Titans,’ so it’s head-spinning to see the man’s beefy figure as a speck hovering so precariously close to New York’s infinite sky. The camera swirls around Worthington’s disgraced former cop Nick Cassidy, inching out past that thin strip of architecture, then back in. What if he trips, or jumps? For a while, anything seems possible, and it’s both exhilarating and terrifying. Then the wool comes off, and it’s clear that director Asger Leth and screenwriter Pablo Fenjves have ambitions considerably less grand than their protagonist’s perch. Cassidy’s ledge game — with all the studio-unfriendly moral ambiguities it entails — is just a con, a photo op for the crowds, and Nick’s apparent desire to exit the material world is a front. What he truly, passionately wants to do is steal some jewelry.” — Andrew Lapin, NPR

The Impact of Practical Effect
“I, on the other hand, was gripping anything in reach, palms dripping, thinking I might not have survived the effects had they been 3-D. Though there were other production sites, serious time was spent actually shooting on that 14-inch ledge wrapping the 21st floor of the Roosevelt Hotel to create the vicarious sensation of being there. Which worked frighteningly well, at least for the vertiginous among us. Oh, that the actual human dynamics of the unfolding story could have been as dramatic, as on the edge as that ledge.” — Betsy Sharkey, Los Angeles Times

The Direction
“Mr. Leth, the son of renowned Danish documentarian Jorgen Leth, has directed only one other film, ‘Ghosts of Cité Soleil,’ a highly stylized doc that revealed a soul yearning to breathe free of nonfiction. He has an instinct for weaving sturdy narrative fabric out of intersecting plot lines. … Amid the hoopla, Mr. Leth takes sobering assessment of media-circuses and mob mentalities: The people down below taking cellphone pictures, the ones yelling ‘Jump!’; the callous nature of cops for whom it’s all routine. There’s the occasional goofy grace note: Kyra Sedgwick, playing a voracious and obviously Anglo television reporter named Suzie Morales, rolls the ‘R’ in her surname as she signs off, just in case someone missed the point (we’ve all heard it). In another scene, Mr. Leth takes such pains to strip the shapely Ms. Rodriguez down to her underwear that audiences, who may well be leering, will also be laughing at how obvious it is.” — John Anderson, Wall Street Journal

The Final Word, Pro/Con Style
“Director Asger Leth, making his U.S. feature-film debut with ‘Man on a Ledge,’ keeps the pace brisk and never allows the tone to stray into self-seriousness, which is crucial for a movie whose premise is so devoutly ridiculous. The script, from Pablo F. Fenjves, provides enough feints and twists to keep us engaged. Jamie Bell and Genesis Rodriguez aren’t the most believable of couples, but there’s a screwball charm to their comic routine as amateur thieves charged with aiding Nick’s scheme. (Leth can’t resist inserting an entirely superfluous — but nonetheless greatly appreciated — scene of the criminally gorgeous Rodriguez stripping down to a thong in the middle of a heist.) Worthington makes for a likable populist protagonist, even if his Australian accent betrays him on copious occasions, and Harris’ disturbingly emaciated frame lends an added menace to his devious plutocrat villain.” — Thomas Leupp, Hollywood.com

“Like last year’s action comedy ‘Tower Heist,’ ‘Man on a Ledge’ becomes something of a parable of the 99 percent, with Cassidy initially an object of prurient interest for the massed crowds below, then becoming a blue-collar folk hero. That gives the movie at least a frisson of contemporary relevance, but the filmmakers blow that advantage with plot and characterization that require not just a suspension of disbelief but a suspension of eye-rolling reflexes and the nagging impulse to burst into derisive laughter.” — Ann Hornaday, Washington Post

Despite all the hype and controversy, critics are pretty impressed by Del Rey’s atmospheric music.

The now-infamous “Saturday Night Live” performance fail. All the hype about her looks, her path to the spotlight and the obligatory album leak a week before her debut dropped.

Lana Del Rey survived a lifetime’s worth of slings and arrows before her major-label debut, Born to Die, was even released. But now that it’s officially out, critics have had a chance to listen to the atmospheric tracks she’s put together, and for the most part, they’re pretty impressed.

The Chicago Tribune gave it two out of four stars and said the finished product is not always as interesting as the run-up to its release. “[The album] positions itself as a knowing retro commentary. It borrows heavily from B movies starring various second- and third-level ‘Rebel Without a Cause’ bad boys on motorcycles, string-drenched ‘Last Kiss’ pop tunes in which young lovers die in each other’s arms, beehived teens-with-attitude declaring, ‘He hit me and it felt like a kiss,’ ” music critic Greg Kot wrote. While Kot said Del Rey wishes to be taken seriously as “the bad girl in a gown, the cabaret singer with a masochistic streak,” he said she’s not always up to the task, even as he praised her distinctive, draggy vocal delivery and the dramatic, eerie arrangements from producer Emilie Haynie.

Over at BBC, the focus was squarely on the music, saying above and beyond the drama, Born to Die is about “something older and more mysterious than that; the extraordinary, resilient power of the pop song.” The reviewer lamented that nothing on the 12-track album quite reaches the exquisite bummerness of lead single “Video Games,” with several of the songs running “perilously close, while revealing there’s more to her than the love-stunned torch singer [of that song].” What makes the album so fascinating and sets Del Rey apart from the typical “I’m hot, you’re hot” pop tart is her “preoccupation with Hollywood archetypes of American femininity, and her ability to shape-shift between them.”

MTV News’ own James Montgomery believed the hype, writing that the album was “positively brimming with atmospherics — soaring, sonorous strings, echoing electronic boom-bap, morose, maudlin guitar crescendos — all of which imbue it with a truly epic (if not unnecessarily dramatic) scope.” For him, the album is a “thrilling headphone experience” that sounds like the $1 million he suspected it cost to make.

The U.K.’s Guardian also praised the “sumptuous” orchestration and Del Rey’s “fine” voice. But after being impressed by the “beguiling description of a mundane love” affair in “Video Games,” the reviewer said the album’s other lyrics are “incredibly heavy-handed in their attempts to convince you that Lana del Rey is the doomed but devoted partner of a kind of Athena poster bad boy, all white vest, cheekbones and dangling ciggie.” If anything, the Guardian critic didn’t buy the Del Rey tough-girl personality and said the best bet is to mostly ignore the lyrics and focus on “how magnificently most of the melodies have been constructed.”

Demi Moore 911 Call: ‘She’s Been Having Some Issues’

‘She’s shaking, convulsing, burning up,’ one caller says the night of Moore’s hospitalization.
By Jocelyn Vena

In the 911 call made the night of Demi Moore’s hospitalization, a female caller is heard describing the events that led to the actress’ Monday health scare.

Describing Moore’s condition as “semiconscious, barely,” the caller told the 911 operator, “She smoked something. It’s not marijuana, but it’s similar to it. It’s similar to incense. She seems to be having convulsions of some sort.”

The first caller then passed the phone to another woman, who added, “She’s shaking, convulsing, burning up. I’m taking cold water and putting it on her back because she’s burning up. I don’t know what would have made her do it.”

Demi’s hospitalization has soon-to-be ex-husband Ashton Kutcher “deeply concerned.”

There appeared to be several other people present at the time of the call, as they all frantically tried to keep the actress afloat. When asked if it was common for Moore to react in this way, one caller said, “There has been some stuff recently that we’re just finding out.” Another caller added: “She’s been having some issues lately with some other stuff, so I don’t know what she’s been taking or not.”

As the seven-minute phone call wrapped up, the paramedics arrived to the residence. On Tuesday, Moore’s rep said she had been hospitalized due to “exhaustion”; however, there has been speculation that she had been inhaling nitrous oxide at the time of the incident.

Moore’s health scare caps a rough patch for the actress.

Sources told E! News that her three daughters are doing fine. Rumer, 23, visited her mother several times at the hospital before she was discharged earlier this week. Tallulah, 17, is with her dad, Bruce Willis. “She’s doing great,” the source told E! “Her grandmother [Bruce's mom] is also there with her.” Moore’s other daughter, 20-year-old Scout, goes to Brown University in Rhode Island and reportedly hasn’t been home since the incident.

On Friday (January 27), news broke that Mary Louise-Parker has replaced Moore in the “Lovelace” film, currently filming in Los Angeles.

Reese Witherspoon is slated to sit down with MTV News on Tuesday for an exclusive interview and premiere of a previously unseen clip from her upcoming film “This Means War.” The special, “MTV First: This Means War,” will air on Tuesday at 7:56 p.m. ET on MTV.

But before we look to the future, we are going to take a peep at her past. MTV News has uncovered a precious vintage gem, a 1991 interview with the then up-and-comer. “Ever since I was 7,” the already precocious and sassy rookie told MTV News when asked whether she had always had her sights set on a career in Hollywood. “I just thought, I always wanted to do something really outgoing ’cause when I was little I was really kind of quiet, but you know, I’d always be really creative at home and stuff, and finally I started, you know, speaking out and doing little things to impress everybody.”

She further explained that once she had decided that acting was something she wanted to do, she took the necessary steps to make sure she’d be ready for fame and stardom. “I started taking little acting classes and improv classes and, you know, [that] turned out to be what I was going to do,” she said. “I was always going to do something really out there, really far away. Does that make any sense? No, not really.”

Later mocking herself and her answer, she teased, “That’s nice, Reese. That’s real nice.”

Following the on-air “First” segment, Academy Award winner Witherspoon will stay for an additional 30-minute interview on MTV.com with MTV News’ Josh Horowitz. Fans can be part of the action right away by submitting video or text questions on MTV.com or via Twitter by using hashtag #MTVFirst.

“This Means War,” the McG-directed comedy-action film, stars Witherspoon as a seductive female dating two of the world’s deadliest CIA operatives (played by Chris Pine and Tom Hardy), whose partnership and friendship are put in jeopardy when they begin to battle for her affections. Instead of talking to her about the love triangle, they try to settle the matter using all of the weapons at their disposal.

The film also stars one of Witherspoon’s real-life pals, comedian and “Chelsea Lately” host Chelsea Handler, who gives Reese’s character the terrible advice that she should continue dating both men.

Check out everything we’ve got on “This Means War.”

Justin Timberlake Is ‘Perfect’ In Coen Brothers Flick

‘Inside Llewyn Davis’ actor Oscar Isaac has been recording music with Timberlake for the ’60s folk flick.
By Jocelyn Vena

“W.E.” star Oscar Isaac is deep in musical preparations for the next Coen Brothers film, “Inside Llewyn Davis,” in which he’ll play the title character. In a couple weeks, Isaac and his castmates, including Justin Timberlake, Carey Mulligan and Garrett Hedlund, will be on set, but until then they are in the recording studio putting the finishing touches on the film’s musical elements.

“Right now I’m gearing up for the Coen Brothers film, which is all music-based,” he told MTV News at the New York premiere of the Madonna-directed “W.E.” “So that’s actually taking up a lot of the musical creative energy. So excited.”

Isaac, much like his co-stars, has dabbled in music, having put off recording his own music to focus on the film. And with some assistance from some big-name musical heavyweights, the music is destined to shine. The actor said the cast is currently in the studio with Timberlake, the Punch Brothers, T-Bone Burnett and Mulligan’s fiancé, Marcus Mumford — what he called an “amazing group of musicians.”

“It’s folk from the ’60s — old songs passed down for many generations — but new takes on them,” he said of the songs being used in the film, which follows the life of a New York City folk singer in the 1960s. “Obviously we have the hindsight of now and so we kind of revisit these old songs. They’re hopeful and beautiful and in contrast [to] the life of a folk singer, which is not very beautiful at all. It’s very drab and dire. It’s a screwball comedy.”

As for Timberlake, the pop star best known for his bouncing beats can sing folk too. “He’s perfect, really pure,” Isaac said.

How do you think Justin Timberlake will do with folk music? Sound off in the comments.

Megaupload Users Plan To Sue FBI Over Lost Files

While the FBI went after the file-sharing site for copyright infringement, many users want to recover their non-pirated data.
By Kara Warner

The drama surrounding file-sharing site Megaupload continued Friday (January 27) as users announced a plan to sue the FBI over files lost during the site’s shutdown last week.

Last week, the federal government took action against Megaupload.com, arresting several members of the company on racketeering and copyright-infringement charges. A federal indictment alleged that the site, which allows users to transfer large files, has generated more than $175 million in criminal proceeds and costs copyright-holders more than $500 million in lost revenue from pirated movies, albums and other materials.

According to TorrentFreak.com, Pirate Parties around the world are banding together to file an official complaint against U.S. authorities in an effort to recover the large amounts of non-pirated data, research documents and personal videos that are shared among users on the site.

“The widespread damage caused by the sudden closure of Megaupload is unjustified and completely disproportionate to the aim intended,” they announced in a statement obtained by TorrentFreak. “For this reason Pirates of Catalonia, in collaboration with Pirate Parties International and other Pirate Parties, have begun investigating these potential breaches of law and will facilitate submission of complaints against the US authorities in as many countries as possible, to ensure a positive and just result.

“This initiative is a starting point for legitimate internet users to help defend themselves from the legal abuses promoted by those wishing to aggressively lock away cultural materials for their own financial gain.”

The Department of Justice said the case against Megaupload is among the largest criminal copyright cases ever brought by the United States. The news broke just a day after major websites like Wikipedia and Google protested against the U.S. House of Representatives’ controversial Stop Online Piracy Act, or SOPA, and the Senate’s similar Protect IP Act.

‘Man On A Ledge’: The Reviews Are In!

January 28th, 2012 by factor

‘Avengers’ Villain An Infinite Mystery

MTV News speculates on which Marvel Comics baddie will be joining forces with Loki when ‘Marvel’s The Avengers’ assembles this summer.
By Josh Wigler

“Marvel’s The Avengers” promises to pit Earth’s Mightiest Heroes — Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, Hulk, Black Widow and Hawkeye, in case you’ve somehow forgotten — against the trickster god Loki, as well as another nemesis that remains unidentified. Popular theories have long pegged the Skrulls, Marvel’s shape-shifting alien menace, as the likeliest group to join forces with the disenfranchised Asgardian prince. Many fans are also expecting to see another possible foe, “Captain America” villain Red Skull, based on his inclusion in an upcoming “Avengers” action figure line.

But leave it to Kevin Feige, head of Marvel Studios, to bust both rumors. Speaking with Empire magazine last week, he revealed that the still-unknown secondary baddies are “not Skrulls.” Additionally, while it would be nice to see Hugo Weaving’s villainous visage at some point down the line, “he’s not in this one.”

So, no Skrulls. No Red Skull. It’s Loki, and it’s … someone or something else. But who or what?

Feige promised that while Marvel wants to hide the identity of “the alien race” that’s confronting our favorite superheroes, their identity is “not impactful,” even though they exist in the comic books. One imagines, then, that the Kree are out along with the Skrulls. Perhaps it’s as simple as a return of the Jotunheim, last seen in 2011′s “Thor.” Maybe it’s just arbitrary and the identity of these aliens truly does not matter.

That doesn’t mean the mystery isn’t important. And that doesn’t mean the aliens are the mystery villain, either.

The < i>Latino Review once put forth a report — one that’s unverified by all accounts — stating that Thanos, the hulking purple-skinned alien that’s frequently dusted up with the Avengers and other Marvel heroes, is the secret villain we’ve all been wondering about. It’s a rumor to be sure, but it’s one I’m inclined to believe for a couple of reasons … and it all goes back to Comic-Con.

In July 2010, the Marvel booth at Comic-Con featured a display case filled with items from the studio’s upcoming comic book movies. Among them: Thor’s hammer Mjolnir, Captain America’s mighty shield and the bejeweled Infinity Gauntlet. The Gauntlet is one of the more prominent items in the cosmic side of the Marvel Universe, one that’s virtually synonymous with Thanos. Indeed, its inclusion in the Marvel display case felt like an unspoken promise that Thanos would someday have a part to play in the company’s cinematic future.

Cut to “Thor” almost a year later, and the Gauntlet appeared as a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it Easter egg that came and went when Jotunheim thieves infiltrated Asgard to reclaim their long-lost prize, the Casket of Ancient Winters. Could it be that the Gauntlet only existed as a wink and nod to the fans back home? Entirely possible. But what if Loki, who clearly knows the history and value of the Casket, has information on the other items contained in Asgard — including what the Gauntlet is, and who would do anything to have it? For someone mightily pissed off at his brother and the Earth-dwellers he’s become so fond of, that’s very powerful information indeed.

Consider also that Feige, the same man who kiboshed the Skrulls and Skull, has long said that the cosmic side of Marvel is a big priority for him. In fact, just a few months ago, he revealed that movies based on the “Inhumans” and “Guardians of the Galaxy” were on the docket at Marvel Studios. Fantastic reads both of them, no question, but obscure beyond belief to the non-comic book reader. If Feige is looking ahead at “phase two” of the Marvel plan, as he’s called it in the past, are “Inhumans” and “Guardians” really the best places to start?

Perhaps they are … if someone huge, someone massive, someone like Thanos, makes his first appearance in “Avengers,” and lives on to stalk the stars (and the screen) another day.

It’s not the meatiest theory out there. It’s based on a rumor, on a taste of what Marvel has given us both on and off the screen, and on a desire to see someone important occupy this oh-so-secretive role. For Feige to come out and say the movie’s second villainous force is not the Skrulls and not Red Skull, and that Loki’s alien army is “not impactful” in identity … either he’s not telling the full story on who or what this unseen enemy represents, or the big reveal is going to be a massive letdown. Given how Marvel has operated in recent years, and given the importance of “Avengers” to their brand and plans, I just don’t see it being the latter option.

Here’s what I do see. Loki aside, “The Avengers” will have another deeply meaningful foe to fight come May 4, 2012. And my considerably sized gut tells me it’s going to be Thanos.

Who do you think the secret “Avengers” villain will be? Tell us in the comments section.

Check out everything we’ve got on “Marvel’s The Avengers.”

She continued, ?If both of them are right, you’re pretty much OK. And shoes are a statement. They can be very sexy; they can say something about where you are in the day; they can say what your mood is; they give you a chance to accessorize. And I’m a girl that loves to change my shoes all the time. It’s an expression of who you are really. I’m a girl if I find a shoe that I really like I like to get them in all colors. How Did ‘Cosmopolis’ Top ‘Twilight’ In Our Movie Brawl?

January 28th, 2012 by factor
Respond

This week’s ‘Twilight’ Tuesday takes a closer look at why fans chose Robert Pattinson’s indie over ‘Breaking Dawn – Part 2.’
By Kara Warner

Over the course of the “Twilight Saga” movies, we at MTV News have come a long way in understanding the franchise’s very passionate fanbase. So when we launched the MTV Movie Brawl 2012, I thought there was a very good chance “Twilight” fans would vote “Breaking Dawn – Part 2″ through to the championship round and into the championship slot, no problem.

I was wrong. “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2″ was ousted early, in the second round, by eventual champ “Cosmopolis.” Yes, the two films share a very popular star in Robert Pattinson, but compared with the millions upon millions of “Twilight” fans who have read all of Stephenie Meyer’s books, we’re guessing not as many are familiar with “Cosmopolis” through its source material by Don DeLillo.

So here’s what I think: All of you wonderfully dedicated Pattinson fans are in it for the long haul. You’re choosing to grow and evolve right along with Pattinson and the ebbs and flows of his chosen profession. That sentiment is exemplified perfectly by this poignant comment by MTV community member and Pattinson fan, Lior: “VOTE COSMOPOLIS! Support Rob’s new, professional career! SEE HIS TALENT BEYOND TWILIGHT.”

Not that the excitement for the final chapter in “The Twilight Saga” has lessened in any way, of course, but because there’s more mystery surrounding “Cosmopolis,” it is the more intriguing of the two films.

And let’s not forget about Pattinson’s other upcoming film, “Bel Ami,” which only narrowly lost to “Cosmopolis” in that first round. I would have thought the interest in seeing a lot of RPattz’s bare bottom would have easily trumped the film about a young finance wiz taking a day-long limo ride through New York City. But then there’s word of a particularly heated scene in the back of said limo, so what do I know? Regardless, consider me pleasantly surprised.

What do you think, “Twilight” fans? Why did “Cosmopolis” triumph over “Breaking Dawn – Part 2″? Let us know in the comments or tweet me @karawarner!

Amid her personal woes, Demi Moore, who had been set to play Gloria Steinem in the Linda Lovelace biopic, has been replaced by “Weeds” star Mary-Louise Parker.

Sources confirm to UsMagazine.com that the TV star will fill in for Moore, who had to drop out of the film earlier this week after she was hospitalized for “exhaustion.” On Thursday, there was speculation that Chloë Sevigny would play the feminist icon when she was cast as a feminist journalist, but now it seems that those are two different roles.

“Lovelace” is currently shooting in Los Angeles with Amanda Seyfried playing the film’s central character, ’70s porn actress Linda Lovelace.

As the Demi drama rolls on, there are reports that Madonna reached out to the actress shortly after she was hospitalized. Moore has since been released from the L.A.-area hospital.

Sources tells E! News that the singer called her actress pal. “Madonna told Demi she was there if she needs anything,” the E! source says, adding, “They’re pretty tight.”

The ladies last hung out during Golden Globes weekend, and they reportedly were going to see one another again over Super Bowl weekend; Madge is slated to perform during the halftime show. The status of their annual post-Oscars bash is currently up in the air.

While speculation runs rampant about why Moore was hospitalized, sources say that her ex, Ashton Kutcher, is “deeply concerned” for her. Moore is rumored to have been doing nitrous oxide before landing in the hospital. “He still cares about her and wants the best for her,” the source added. “But their marriage is ending and they are both moving on with their lives.”

Matthew Broderick Returns as Ferris Bueller! Sort Of!

OMG. Matthew Broderick is finally reprising his career-defining role of Ferris Bueller. That’s the good news. The bad? It’s only for a Super Bowl commercial.

The sequel to Ferris Bueller’s Day Off has been rumored for years, and will likely never happen. Which is probably for the best, as it could never be topped.

Perhaps a 30- or 60-second Super Bowl ad – for what, we have no idea, but a teaser for the spot appears below – is the perfect dose of Bueller in 2012.

Check out a gray-haired Matthew reenacting a famous scene below:

We don’t know what’s funnier, seeing Broderick as a middle-aged version of Ferris, or that we live in an age where Super Bowl commercials have their own trailers.
